Why more stars will be funding their own companies in the future

Will Ferrell’s FunnyorDie takes HBO for up to $10 million

We’re going to see a lot of stars do things like this in the coming months and years. Smart people realize that the distribution channels controlled by large corporations are going to be increasingly marginalized in the not-too-distant future.  They know that they’ll be able to reach an audience directly and maintain complete control, autonomy and revenue from their endeavors. Considering the widespread dumbing-down of mainstream content to the lowest common denominator this can only mean good things for the audience.

Of course I’m not sure we’re going to see a huge change in Will Ferrell’s stuff, no matter if he controls it or not.
