A Short and Ineloquent Gripe from a Lifetime 2.7 GPA-Type Political Mind (Who Has Slept Very, Very Little in the Last 2 Weeks). [The Kind of Material that Could Ostensibly be Flushed Out Into a Relatively Thoughtful Piece But Instead Suffers From its Writer’s Laziness and Sleep-Deprivation. And No, an Eggers-Esque “Post-Modern” Title is Not Intentional Because I Would Suppose That Shit is Passe Even Though I Know Nothing About Anything Literary Nowadays. Although I Did Just Finish a Great Jeff Pearlman Book.]
I was actually surpisingly touched by Jesse Jackson’s tears. I suppose it IS naive to not notice that there was a camera RIGHT IN FRONT that he couldn’t help but notice.
I’m bothered by the immediate over-concentration on race from this “historic victory”. Race has obviously been an integral theme throughout but Obama’s victory is SO much more important than anything race-related. Barack Obama is a victory for dynamism, intelligence, consilience, cohesive modernity, rectification, etc. I really don’t mean to belittle the historical significance of a half-black president and what that means for African Americans, but I don’t feel we should be overemphasizing celebration for anything Black, Half-Black, White or Whatever with our new President-Elect. By doing so it kind of erodes the spirit behind the remarkableness of steady racial progressiveness in our country.
I just really don’t want to hear the Soledad O’Briens of the world ramble on and on about Minority This, Minority That. Fuck Minority. (This coming from a “minority”.)
I don’t want to hear the Roland Martins give over-zealous spiels about the “Blackness” of this all.
I don’t want to hear the Wolf Blitzers nauseatingly reset the fact that, yes, North America elected the first black man to sit in the oval office.
And I really don’t want to see Jesse Jackson crying inconsolably. Fuck you, you big fucking phony.
I’m ecstatic for our country. I’m ecstatic that our country can elect a black president. Now can we concentrate on what really matters about this whole thing? This country is energized and has a true leader at its helm. Fuck yes!
